Souleymane Compo is a respected master drummer
and a warm and patient teacher from Boke in Guinea Conakry, West Africa.
He was born into the musical tradition – his mother performed African
ballet throughout the region with the local troupe, and always brought her
son to the show.
Souleymane later travelled to The Gambia, where he continued his training
in the traditional arts with Guinean masters, in the famous Fatala Drum and
Dance School. Soon afterwards, he began teaching African drumming and dance
to students from all over the world.
Souleymane moved to London in 2004. Since then, he has been teaching
African drumming across the UK to groups of all ages and abilities.
He currently teaches 2 regular African drumming
classes in Camden, London.
He also performs
live with his own group - Wuntanara.
At every performance and workshop, Souleymane's energy and enthusiasm are
infectious.
Souleymane now takes groups back to Guinea Conakry and Gambia for drumming
holidays, and to experience African life.
